2020 MJM 40z

Clare Ann is a 2020 MJM 40z, hull #105, delivered in July 2019. She was motored from Boston to Camden, ME, where she has spent the summers at a slip in Camden Harbor, cruising Penobscot Bay and wintering indoors. She is now at Boston BoatWorks for the winter.

With slightly more than 200 hours on her engines, she is virtually a new boat. The same boat (renamed a 43zi because swim platforms are now included in the overall length) currently sells for over $1.5M.

The 40z is often recognized as the best forty-foot performance cruiser afloat. She is one of only two 40’ yachts ISO Certified Category A Ocean (The other is the Nordhavn 40—no longer made). The classic modified deep-V Doug Zurn hull provides a smooth, dry and stable ride. She cruises at 32 knots and is capable of 38 knots. The dual lifting strakes, chine flats, and 19-degree transom deadrise provide unmatched stability, level acceleration and a dry ride. Thanks to strong, lightweight heat-cured, epoxy with E-glass construction, her fuel efficiency is as much as 50% better. The joystick controlled, twin IPS Volvo Penta drives make any skipper look good when docking and the DPS station keeping function provides a cool way to pause for lunch without deploying the anchor.

The panoramic sightlines; open galley with dinette; pilot house and cockpit on the same level; side boarding doors at floating dock level; large sliding glass side windows; power-operated front windshield; Humphree Active Ride Control and Seakeeper Gyrostabilizer contribute to the ease, comfort and performance of this fine boat.

Accommodations

Cockpit

Boarding is by port, starboard or transom doors. The transom cockpit bench seat lifts with an electric operated lift arm (there is a manual backup) for engine compartment access. Two cockpit bumper lockers open for storage. Courtesy lights offer ample evening lighting. Chamois UltraLeather is used throughout. The deck is Esthec Composite.

Pilot House

Settee seating is on both sides with a folding table on the port side. Settees may convert to berths. There is one oversize Stidd seat and one standard size. LED lights overhead are dimmable. The pilot house is open and airy with 360-degree visibility. Tinted sliding glass may be covered with inside privacy covers to make the pilot house a private cabin. The wheel is a 24" Edson Destroyer with varnished teak rim. The deck is Esthec Composite.

Salon

Clear Awlgrip gloss-finished teak and holly cabin sole runs throughout the interior with off-white paneling and varnished cherry doors, cabinet work and trim. The dinette table lowers electrically to form a 40"-44" wide by 78" double berth. A curtain is available to provide privacy. Ports and hatches have screens and shades.

Galley

The Corian counter top is Cameo White with cherry cabinetry above and below. There are push button locks and drawer knobs for food and dish lockers and drawers. The stainless-steel sink has a Scanvik pullout faucet. There is a stainless steel two-drawer refrigerator, a separate top-loaded freezer, a ceramic two-burner electric cooktop, a microwave/convection oven.

Head

The Vacuflush head is accessible both from the salon and from the master stateroom. There are lockers above and below the sink and full-length mirror inside the door. Counter tops are white Corian with stainless-steel sink, mixing valve spigot and pullout flexible hose with soft-spray to use as a second shower.

Shower

The separate, stand-up shower has a seat, a wall mounted Scanvik shower hose, a shaving mirror and towel & toiletry storage.

Stateroom

Two large clothes lockers are in the forepeak master stateroom, the port and starboard lockers are hanging lockers. The berth is 60"x 78" with a memory foam mattress. LED lights are dimmable. Four storage drawers are below. More storage is available forward under the mattress. There are storage shelves above the berth, bookcases in the forward bulkhead and double access doors to the forepeak anchor locker. Doors, cabinet work and trim are cherry
