1997 Bristol Channel Cutter 28

As you enter the companionway, the large, workable galley is to port, the chart table/navigation station to starboard with the Q berth and outboard storage just aft. Next forward is the ideally sized salon with incredible storage under the settees and outboard. The dinette is formed from the settee to port with a solid centerline table and the starboard settee. On the port side, the classic Sam L. Morse pilot berth is a cozy sea berth. This pilot berth slides out to create a comfortable double berth at anchor. There is a large quarter berth aft on the port side, but it also provides amazing storage. Of course there is the famous chart locker above the berth and access to the engine room. There is also storage outboard the berth with custom cabinetry. Up forward, the “multi-purpose room” is a cabin designed as the head, walk-in closet, dressing room, workshop, and access to the forepeak with the sail locker forward and chain locker below that. The huge hatch opens either forward or aft and creates a beautiful flow of air through the boat. 

The BCC has the largest and most functional galley you will ever find on a small ship. The galley is located to port, right when you walk down the companionway stairs. There is an extra large stainless steel sink and a huge dry storage locker outboard of the sink. There is another huge storage locker just aft of the two burner gimbaled propane stove.  The counter space is astounding with the fold up bridge from the refrigerator on the starboard side to the sink amid ships. The famous Lyle Hess-designed counter bridges the space creating amazing work space that allows easy access to the refrigerator and to all the storage areas.

Lyle Hess got it absolutely right when he designed the BCC 28 for Sam L. Morse to build out of the new boat building material, fiberglass. Lyle's genius is evident from the 127 BBCs built at the Sam L. Morse Co. between 1976 and 2008. The BCC was featured in Ferenc Mate's first Volume of "The Best Boats to Buy or Build and in his two later volumes of "The World's Best Sailboats". This boat is an amazing small and capable voyager with a cult group of passionate owners, many of whom are now scattered around the world. At just 26 feet on the waterline, the Bristol Channel Cutter has more load-carrying capacity than many 34-footers. She has 218 cubic feet of interior space below the waterline, which is where a load has to be carried in order to contribute to stability. The more space below the waterline, the more room for water, fuel, chain, canned goods and all the other equipment needed for extended cruising. Moreover, she is seaworthy and sails well, performing in all kinds of weather in a way that will quickly establish your faith in her. This model has been cruised across the Pacific many times. Owners report excellent pointing ability and easy, 150-mile days under working sails in the trade winds. The hull is hand-laminated, solid fiberglass - no core material. The stem and bottom of the keel are especially heavy for great strength and impact resistance. To compare this boat, do what boat builders do and compare its price-per-pound. Divide its price by displacement, and you may find this little cutter to be one of the best buys on the market.
